When it's meant to be, it's meant to be. We had no Intentions of adding another stud to the ranch, but here he is. An auction mart gem. We know almost nothing about him - just that he was truly loved and taken care of by a lady that left this world and was brought to the local auction. We are SO excited to see what the future holds for him and what kind of mane and tail he adds to our herd.
We never go to the sale with a trailer .. we go for lunch. But before said lunch, Shawn and I strolled through the back pens at the mart, we stopped at his pen. Shawn looked at me and said "he's coming home". I laughed and we walked on. He came in, mane a bit of a mangled mess, hooves needing a trim .. auctioneer starts reading his papers and two big eyes are staring at me on my right. "You bid." And I bid.
And in that rough situation of an auction mart, there was a gem.

It is with greatest sadness that we announce that our dear Smokey has passed on. We will continue on with his legacy here at Rowdy Ranch and keep him in our hearts. He was a special horse who got to live the best life with us for the short time he was here.

Smokey came to us in 2020 by random chance, shortly after we had made the decision to no longer breed after the heart breaking loss of our last stallion. Enter the small and very proportioned, gentleman of a black stallion that is so much more than wild mane and tail.
His quiet mind, gentleness and train ability have proven to shine through on every one of his offspring that have landed at The Rowdy Ranch.
