While we love bloodlines, the method to our madness is having a well built, sane minded horse. We can proudly say that each and everyone of our mares is broke to ride which leads to the excitement each and every year when the babies start to show up!
Amara brought home a cowboy named Shawn 15 years ago and changed the trajectory of the horse department on the farm. He would continually question how Linda had not a clue of the caliber of horses she was hiding in the back field .. to which the response was ‘I don’t know, I just thought she/he was really pretty.’ The years went by and the more broke every horse became. Shawn’s love of bloodlines and his own personal brand of a real fancy brown with very little white has become a known thing in these parts. Grew up team roping (and still competing to this day), loves building bits and headstalls, talking horses and reading about horses. If there were no horses in the world, he could not be a part of it ;) He’s the trainer + the farrier. Amara is the photographer (has ran a successful family/wedding photography career for 17 years - www.amaradirksphoto.com), runs Leaning Tree Trail rides (www.leaningtreetrailrides.ca) with Shawn and is often referred to as the glue that keeps the farm family together. She spends her time playing with the babies - halter breaking, feeding and farming with her parents + sister.
Peter + Linda (Amara’s parents), have ran a commercial beef herd here in Westlock County for 30+ years. Linda’s love for horses and animals in general has followed her since childhood. Peter grew up on a dairy farm, is a welder by trade and is the jack of ALL trades around the farm. They both competed in endurance rides in their younger years, and still to this day, they spend many hours with their family riding horses to check cows and trail riding both on their beautiful land and in the mountains together. There were never a shortage of horses coming and going off the farm for their three daughters & son to enjoy as one thing Linda has always been passionate about, through cattle, horses, chicken, you name it - is breeding good animals to acquire more good animals. Both their love of farming and raising quality animals shows through the entire process of choosing the animal, feeding and care. The farm is the hub and all but one daughter live within minutes from one another still farming year round together.
it's a real family affair. evenings in the arena are a place we all love to mess around at!
